POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR
盈月
At Eigetsu, game such as badger, deer and bear is served alongside Japanese drinks and small plates. Visitors also recall the dried fish and egg-over-rice dishes.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
From badger and Ezo deer to mallard and Japanese black bear, visitors remember the different ways each game dish can be enjoyed. One diner was struck by the rich flavour and generous fat of a badger belly dish, which reminded them of beef belly; another enjoyed Japanese black bear for the savoury flavour that deepened with every bite. A different visitor who ordered Ezo deer and bear reported that both were easy to eat, without a strong gamey taste or smell. Those new to game might find it approachable to start with the meat that appeals to them.
Between the meat dishes, there are grilled vegetables and small plates such as iburigakko with cheese. One diner enjoyed the smoked aroma of the iburigakko alongside the richness of the cheese, making it an appealing choice with a first drink or while waiting for the main dishes. The same visitor particularly liked the dried chicken neck: they noted its characteristic springy texture and concentrated flavour, as well as the fragrant toastiness that comes from drying. It is another tempting option for an evening centred on drinks and small plates.
For a final dish, some visitors single out egg-over-rice or an egg-over-rice rice ball as favourites. Others visit for sake, shochu, wine or gin, choosing a drink to accompany their food as part of the experience. Eigetsu is open from late afternoon, and payment is cash only.
